Secret Chiefs 3
30 Sep 2008 | ConcertPlano B
The legendary Secret Chiefs 3 who, under the guidance of Trey Spruance (formerly of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More, among countless other projects), pursue the many hidden paths of hyper-reality offered by musical practice, played in Portugal for the first time.
The sextet of Spruance, Timb Harris, Jai Young Kim, Rich Doucette, Peijman Kouretchian and Jason Schimmel played to a totally packed Plano B and entranced the audience with their alchemical fusion of grindcore, Persian music, psychedelia and Ennio Morricone soundscapes. A truly memorable night on various levels, which we plan to repeat as soon as possible.
The icing on this metaphysical cake was provided by the opening act by Franklin Pereira, a pioneer among portuguese Hindustani music performers, who presented an extract of Raga Darbari Kanada on surbahar (a sitar-like instrument).
