It's not easy to explain what happened on the stage of Passos Manuel on the evening of December 3rd: F.R.I.C.S. teamed up with the immortal José Cid, part 60s psychedelic pioneer and part 80s Eurovision-pop anti-hero, for an improvised excursion into the unknown.

Boosted by the presence of all of its full-time members (for the first time ever!) and by the extra guests José Perdigão (vocals), Rui Bandeira (trombone) and Manel Cruz (tape recorders, megaphone, effects), F.R.I.C.S. and José Cid treated the 180 audience members to a psychedelic alchemical fusion of traditional portuguese songs, improvised funk, abstract electronics, quotations from Mr. Cid's repertoire, lines from the movie "Sunset Boulevard" and, behold, two different versions (one during the set and one during the encore) of J.J. Cale's "After Midnight".

This meeting of generations, styles and strategies was a truly historic meltdown of the preconceived notions of mainstream and underground; for those who didn't go, and for those who went but are feeling confused, here, here and here are the links to 3 video clips. More audio and video evidence to follow!
